Norwich FanZoner Ben Tuck has been disappointed by the commitment shown from the players recently.

Time for the Norwich players to earn their wage

Three words which are prominent in the oldest Football song in the world. Three words which define a footballing mentality that engulfs a county. Three words which have been found wanting in recent weeks.

After weeks of asking for a plan B and rotation in the squad, Chris Hughton delivered that on Saturday. The team sheet made most people happy. A hungry strike force of Jackson and Kane to pull, stretch and harass a defence which was literally leagues below them.

The midfield pairing of Howson and Fox was a favourite under the attacking teams deployed by Paul Lambert last season, and last season's young emerging leader Ryan Bennett and the talented(if sometimes lapse) Barnett at the back; seemingly meant that we should surely have too much for Non-league Luton Town.

As we know 90 minutes of gutless football (minus the talismanic Russell Martin) later and we deserved nothing more than the chorus of boos which lamented the players as they escaped the pitch. The majority looked unfit and lacking the match sharpness of a team which has been utilised fully all season. At moments, they did not look like they wanted to play at all.

foreboding

As a fan that unfortunately lives two and a half hours away from the ground, to have a season ticket is quite an expense. It means that I expect a level of commitment from my team at least equal to that of what I have put in. So I travel to Norwich this coming Wednesday with a sense of foreboding.

Having seen Norwich roll over for Luton on Saturday and rolled over by Liverpool the week before I do not expect much from the game on Wednesday night. Who's to say that with a better run in form I would have expected differently?

The next few days will be crucial; we need new blood and improved quality in the team to ride out this lull into next season. Statistically we allow the opposition more time on the ball than any other team. Something which worries me a lot considering we are playing two 'combative midfielders' who are in the team to hurry the opposition and hassle them, at the expense of two more creative players.

So certainly a better quality version of Bradley Johnson is necessary if we are to continue this formation as Tettey is the better with his feet and least likely to concede free kicks or possession.

But having said all that, a marquee name up front wouldn't go amiss either.
