Sweden coach Lars Lagerback has named three English-based players in his 21-man squad for the World Cup qualifier against Portugal.

Bolton forward Johan Elmander, Fulham defender Fredrik Stoor and Birmingham midfielder Sebastian Larsson have all been included for the Stockholm showdown on 11th October.

Elmander has only just returned to action with the Trotters after being sidelined with a hamstring injury, but came through 66 minutes of the 2-0 defeat at Manchester United unscathed.

The Swedes have made an unbeaten but unconvincing start to qualification, drawing 0-0 away to Albania before defeating Hungary 2-1 at home.

Portugal began their campaign with a 4-0 cruise in Malta, but slipped up at home to Denmark in their next fixture, conceding three goals in the final seven minutes to lose 3-2.

Galatasaray midfielder Tobias Linderoth has not been selected as he struggles with a foot injury he sustained three weeks ago.

He told Aftonbladet: "I'm going to Sweden to be examined sometime in the next few days."

Anders Svensson, Erik Edman and Rami Shaaban are also sidelined through injury.

Sweden squad:

Goalkeepers: Andreas Isaksson (PSV Eindhoven), Johan Wiland (Elfsborg).
