Henrik Larsson has been ruled out of Sweden's 2010 World Cup qualifier against Portugal after sustaining a thigh injury.

The 37-year-old joins defender Olof Mellberg and midfielder Cristian Wilhelmsson on the sidelines ahead of the home meeting with Portugal on 11th October.

Larsson limped out of training on Tuesday and it has since been confirmed that he has injured a muscle in his right thigh.

The Helsingborgs forward could now be facing several weeks on the sidelines as Sweden look to build on their three-point haul against Hungary in September.

Juventus defender Mellberg injured his groin against Palermo on Sunday, while Wilhelmsson has yet to recover from the thigh injury he suffered last month.
