Brighton broke the deadlock through Jake Robinson in the 21st minute, who hit his first goal of the season after being put through by Alex Revell. Defender Nicky Nicolau, running back, made a desperate attempt to hook the ball off the line but the goal was given on the say so of the referee's assistant.

Barnet should have equalised on the half-hour after a poor ball from Matt Richards let Jason Norville in, but the striker shot tamely at Kuipers. Birchall wasted another opening for Barnet by firing over with only Kuipers to beat after being put through by Jason Puncheon.

Dean Cox extended Brighton's lead only two minutes into the restart with his third goal of the season. The midfielder struck from eight yards with a header to the left of keeper Lee Harrison after his initial shot had come back off the crossbar.

Barnet, having won their previous four matches, gave themselves hope when striker Adam Birchall pulled a goal back 16 minutes from time.

Birchall muscled in to beat keeper Michel Kuipers from close in but the Seagulls held out to extend their unbeaten run to four games.
