Brian Wilson gave the visitors a lifeline in the second period but Crewe held on for a deserved victory.

Alex started brightly but it was the Robins who had the first sight of goal.

Cole Skuse put Dele Adebola clean through and goalkeeper Steve Collis did well to beat his shot out.

At the other end Tom Pope played in Elding only for the striker to screw his shot high and wide.

But Elding made no mistake in the 24th minute when a neat one-two with Pope left him with just goalkeeper Chris Weale to beat.

This time Elding kept his cool and curled the ball into the bottom far corner of the net.

The Alex should have doubled their account after half-time with Grant and Pope guilty of missing golden chances.

But Moore netted in the 76th minute after racing onto Grant's through-ball to put Crewe 2-0 up.

Two minutes later Wilson scored with a 25-yard screamer but it was too little, too late for Gary Johnson's men.
