Dale dominated throughout in terms of possession but never looked likely to break the deadlock until Adam Le Fondre hit the woodwork midway through the second period.

The home side bossed the opening 45 minutes and Le Fondre came close with a turn and shot which whistled past the post.

The lively Le Fondre then struck the upright with a 25-yard effort which beat goalkeeper Anthony Williams but cannoned back into play off the post.

Williams continued to keep the hosts at bay after denying Callum Higginbotham and Glenn Murray late on while Wrexham's best effort of the game came from a 25-yard drive by Matty Done which goalkeeper Sam Russell pushed wide.
