The Dragons had the better of the opening exchanges, with Drewe Broughton firing at the goalkeeper from point-blank range before the away side's class began to tell.

Steve Evans blocked Aaron Mclean's shot and Carl Tremarco also got his body in the way of an effort from the striker after Gavin Ward had spilled a shot.

The Dragons started the second half well, though, and Broughton wasted a good chance with a header in the 59th minute before Joe Lewis saved well from Evans soon afterwards.

Stuart Nicholson and Evans twice went close as Wrexham turned the screw. But when Chris Llewellyn needlessly handballed just outside the box, Jamie Day curled in the free-kick after 65 minutes.

And it was a case of deja-vu 16 minutes later when another needless foul freed up Day to fire in the clincher from the set piece.
