A horrendous run of three straight defeats has left Leeds second from bottom in the Championship and prompted calls for Blackwell's head.

But an ultimately comfortable victory against League Two minnows Barnet gave the under-fire Leeds boss some temporary respite in front of just 7,220 spectators.

Robbie Blake eased the tension after seven minutes with a coolly-taken opener and substitute Moore netted twice after the break to claim his first goals for the club.

Blackwell knew another defeat would make his position all but untenable and his players duly delivered to see off Paul Fairclough's men.

Six years ago to the day, Leeds celebrated a 1-0 win against the mighty AC Milan in the Champions League but for Blackwell this victory was perhaps no less significant.

He knew the potential repercussions of another defeat and picked a strong side but Blake's opener owed as much to Paul Warhurst's ill-judgment as the Leeds striker's clinical finishing.

Gary Kelly punted a long ball upfield and Warhurst, who turns 37 next week, completely missed the ball to allow Blake to advance forward and fire home left-footed from 18 yards.

It was Leeds' first goal in 298 minutes, their first in open play for almost a month and Blake's first strike in over six months.

But it was Moore, who has endured a torrid time at Elland Road since joining from Burnley in March 2005, who stole the show.

He replaced the injured Geoff Horsfield in the 43rd minute and took his opportunity with aplomb.

Having made 34 goalless appearances for the club, Moore finally got off the mark with a simple header from barely two yards on 55 minutes after Hayden Foxe and Blake flicked on Eddie Lewis' left-wing corner.

Moore will rarely score an easier goal but his second strike was a delightful effort as he collected Blake's pass 20 yards out and thrashed home a fierce right-foot shot.

Although outclassed, Barnet refused to surrender and substitute Magno Vieira nodded home from a corner with 12 minutes remaining to ensure the visitors had the final say.
