On-loan David Poole got the ball rolling after 31 minutes and Adam Le Fondre's second-half wonder strike sealed the points for Jim Gannon's men.

The first half produced little goalmouth action, but Stockport did take a deserved lead when Tes Bramble saw a low drive well saved by Bees goalkeeper Lee Harrison, but Poole was on hand to ram home the loose ball from 10 yards.

Earlier skipper Tony Dinning had curled a 20-yard free-kick inches wide of Barnet's near post, and Bramble volleyed a shot disappointingly wide.

Before the interval Jason Taylor, Adam Proudlock and Poole all missed decent chances to double the home side's lead.

But teenager Le Fondre did make it 2-0 on 50 minutes when he powered home a loose ball with a spectacular overhead kick following Anthony Charles' poor defensive header.

Barnet looked a spent force, but striker Tresor Kandol was unfortunate when his looping header bounced out off the Stockport crossbar.
