Leeds chief Ken Bates has rejected a bid - believed to be £6m - from Newcastle for Fabian Delph, but has refused to discuss Arsenal's interest.
The 18-year-old Whites midfielder - who has drawn comparisons with former England midfielder Paul Gascoigne - has attracted interest from the likes of Bolton and Stoke this season following a string of fine displays in his breakthrough season with the League One outfit.
Arsenal have been constantly linked with a bid for the England Under-19 international, with reports on Tuesday suggesting the Gunners were set to sign Delph in January for £6million and then loan him promptly back to the Whites for the remainder of the season.
However, Bates has refused to discuss news of Arsenal's interest, but has revealed the Magpies have already made a move for the talented youngster.
"I'm still amazed at a recent offer Newcastle made for Fabian," he told Yorkshire Radio. "I won't tell you the content of the fax we sent back but it did end the conversation.
"It's inevitable if the team does well predatory upper league clubs will try their luck without success.
"Fabian Delph will be moving to Premier League - but we hope he'll be moving with us via the Championship.
"He signed a four-year contract until 2012 and he doesn't want to go anywhere."
Meanwhile, Bates is refusing to rule out selling out-of-favour Bradley Johnson when the transfer window reopens in January.
Johnson, who is currently enjoying a successful loan spell with Brighton, has been linked with Championship clubs QPR, Cardiff and Southampton
"One of the clubs reportedly interested in Bradley couldn't do anything anyway," he continued.
"Gary McAllister will look at where he feels he needs to strengthen and what players are surplus to requirements."

"l think its well silly to go after Delph. Like or not, we are in serious need of established, experienced players. We tried the Wenger-way under Robson, didnt exactly work for us. l say if a bid high enough comes in for Owen, take it ! He's on the treatment table more than he is on the pitch. Right now, we should look no further than the Premiership. lf you ask me, we should get scott parker back, butt's not gonna last the entire season, West Ham need to sell anyway. l would also like to see us taking a chance to nugent, he cant have turned into a bad player overnight ! lts about time, things changed for us ! We dun deserve to be languishing in the bottom half of the table ! l think its a shame that we are looking to avoid relegation this season, then tell ourselves, that next season will be better ! Something needs to be done now ! "

"phantomoffenham - amusing...yet foolish. I am a unix analyst for the largest builders merchants in the world....and you ? Burger King doesn't seem so good does it now. Anyway, enough arguing it's not getting us anywhere..you are probably a nice guy / girl and i don't want to carry this on. To be honest i have nothing against Newcastle as a club but the fans who believe that they have a genuine right to be winning everything they are involved in are sorrily mislead..i do hope you stay in the premiership and then in 2 seasons when we are back up we can have some good games like we used to do."

"Forefather - Bit paranoid aren't you? Thanks for the advice but it's entirely unwarrented.
Better financial state? No. Mike Ashley wiped out our debt.
As for where you are in the Leagues... oh dear, you're really not very bright are you?
Although i would suggest you stake your entire life savings on a wager to the effect of LUFC being promoted,(yes, use all 20 pounds), and then enjoy your winnings ;0)
It's hard to fathom that pond-life like your good-self can type on a computer..so genuine congratulations on that. Now, shuffle along you precious pongid. ta ta....

"as a bolton fan living in leeds i go to watch leeds play when Bolton are playing on a sunday. Having seen this lad play i can definately say he will be a class player! He has pace, skill and despite his size he is prepared to put himself about. He'd be a great signing for the wanderers however i can't see it happening"

"PhantomofFenham - first of all fore and four are 2 different words....and it's off not of..that's 2 f's incase you couldn't work it out. Newcastle can and will get relegated in the next 2 seasons. Leeds are in a far superior financial state to Newcastle...we have no debt any more, unlike Mike Ashley."

"forefather - You missed the 's' of the end of your name. Just a rumour.

"Newcastle are one club that really get to me, the fans think they have a god given right to win things and are really dissapointed when they are languishing at the bottom of the league every season ! come on you need to accept that you are a club in decline and Leeds will soon be passing you on the way back up ! see you in the championship next season then you'll see what a class player Delph is !"
