Leon nearing full fitness for Accies

Hamilton striker Leon Knight is happy with his fitness levels and is open about extending his stay with the SPL club.

The 27-year-old joined the New Douglas Park outfit this summer following a spell in Greece earlier this year.

Knight has been slowly but surely been building his fitness levels and has done well off the bench for Billy Reid's side.

Although the former MK Dons, Swansea and Brighton marksman is yet to for his new club he insists confidence levels remain high.

Knight has enjoyed his time so far with Hamilton and has conceded he would be open to extending his one-year deal.

"I've been on the bench and working hard during training and doing a bit more as well," he told skysports.com. "I think I'm near enough fit.

"I've played half the reserve team games and scored four goals so I'm getting to where I want to be.

"It's nothing to do with confidence, that's always there.

"I've played against good sides in the reserves. It's just a matter of going it on the Saturday afternoon now."

Although Knight is yet to stamp his authority at Hamilton he has been impressed with the club on and off the field and is happy in Scotland.

"I'm happy here. I'm not looking beyond this season," he continued, "If a new contract comes my way then I'd definitely put pen-to-paper.

"It's a good club. They look after their players. I'm happy at the moment."

Hamilton slumped to the foot of the table after losing to St Johnstone at the weekend but the talented striker knows there is a lot of football to be played between now and next summer.

When asked if Hamilton can retain their SPL status, he replied: "Yeah obviously.

"You've got teams fighting for the top and to get into Europe and then the bottom half that we're in.

"I feel that little mini league at the bottom that we've got the best squad and it's just about putting into practice on a Saturday.

"We've been unable to do that in previous weeks, but there's still a long way to go."
