United ace eyes derby goal blitz

Wayne Rooney is confident Manchester United can rediscover their killer instinct in front of goal, starting with Sunday's Manchester derby.

Rooney: Another blank at Villarreal
Rooney: Another blank at Villarreal

Despite dominating for large periods against Villarreal on Tuesday night, United were unable to find the back of the net as they progressed into the last 16 of the Champions League.

It was the second game running Sir Alex Ferguson's side have failed to score following their 0-0 draw at Aston Villa on Saturday.

City did the double over the European champions last season as well, but Rooney remains unconcerned by his and the team's current failings.

Rooney told MUTV: "It's not worrying. Although we didn't win the game, we're still pleased because we're through.

"I hope we're saving the goals for Manchester City. The derby at the weekend is a big game for us and we're all looking forward to it.

"I'm not quite sure the draw with Villarreal was one for the spectators, but we were probably the better team and we created lots of chances. We just couldn't take them.

"I don't know why we keeping drawing 0-0. They defended well and they're not all that enthusiastic to win the game, so that makes it more difficult for us."

"Devilz_4Life, learn to speak English before trying to have a go. You win a prize, you beat the opposition, so nobody can "win" the top 4, unless you end up being a raffle prize and that's actually quite likely if your owner can't find some money soon. We have the best record against you over the last 5 years, and I see no reason for this to change on Sunday. As for you saying only post on here when we break into the top 4, if you look around you will find this story is on the City page as well as your page, so get off the high horse and stop being so territorial when it comes to cyberspace. On a football note, your team is playing poorly, City are inconsistent but when they perform they are good enough to beat anyone on the day so your arrogance regarding the match on Sunday may be misplaced, lets wait and see shall we?"

"If we play like we did last night then City will beat us, no problem. I can't say I'm too confident right now ! We're not looking good never mind great !"

"MajorStone (Manchester City fan)... Just one question, when was the last time the Blue side of Manchester did actually win anything? That's the thing with smaller clubs being over shadowed by bigger clubs, when they win any of the big 4, they actually think that they won the Premier League or the Champion League... Open your eyes and smell the fresh air mate... We have one game in hand and a huge gap in the table comparing the club that you support and the club that i support, so let's let the stats speak for itself... Only leave a comment on this page after your team breaks into the top 4 like what Villa did..."
