Wolves complete deal for Zubar

Wolves have made their sixth signing of the summer after bringing in Marseille defender Ronald Zubar for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old defender, who has spent three seasons with l'OM, has penned a four-year deal with the Molineux outfit.

Wolves claim to have beaten off 'fierce competition' for the defender's signature who is their sixth signing this summer and fourth this week.

Manager Mick McCarthy is naturally delighted to Zubar after receiving positive reports from the club's scouting network in France.

"I'm delighted we've managed to get him," he told the club's official website. "We've had some very good reports from those watching him out in France.

"He will prove a valuable addition to the squad and I'm very much looking forward to working with him."

Another defender who could be set to join Wolves is former Celtic stopper Bobo Balde, who has linked up with McCarthy's squad ahead of their pre-season trip to Australia.

The Guinean defender, who is a free agent, will be hoping to impress Wolves' boss in their two-season games against Perth Glory and North Queensland Fury.

"Ronald Zubar should be an excellent signing for next season; anyway you look at it, he adds much needed height and physical presence to our squad. He may look a bit stretched in the Euro Champions League, but he is a vast improvement on Collins and will be a very different type of player from Jody Craddock, thus giving Mick more options. Probably he will be good enough to start, depending on how Richard Stearman and Christophe Berra respond to the step up to the PL. Zubar (23), Stearman (21) and Berra (24) should form a good basis for our central defence for a few years. Throw in Michael Mancienne and another experienced defender and this department of the team will look unbelievably stronger than it was 13 months ago. Already it has been markedly improved."
