Megson aiming to seal double deal

Bolton boss Gary Megson wants Manchester City misfit Gelson Fernandes - and will try to wrap up a deal for West Brom's Paul Robinson this week.

Megson is looking to reshape his midfield for the 2009/10 Premier League campaign, and has already recruited Sean Davis on a free transfer.

Swansea playmaker Ferrie Bodde was also high on the Bolton gaffer's shopping list, but after seeing a £3.5million bid for him rejected by the Championship club, Megson is ready to look elsewhere.

He has reportedly turned his eye towards Eastlands with a view to snapping up 22-year-old midfielder Gelson, who does not figure in Mark Hughes' ambitious plans for the Manchester club.

And Megson is ready to offer £3million for his services, according to the News of the World.

The Trotters boss, meanwhile, is close to luring Robinson to The Reebok after the tenacious left-back held talks with new Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo and told him he wanted to leave The Hawthorns for the North-West.

Albion chairman Jeremy Peace had valued the 30-year-old defender in the £1million bracket - but is now prepared to accept Bolton's improved bid of £750,000 as Di Matteo does not want unhappy players in the dressing room.

"Robinson, a lot of dough for a squad player at best. Gelson Fernadez - a little better but didn't set the world on fire at Citeh. How does Megson expect to turn this team into an attractive footballing side like he had promised with these guys. I do like the Sean Davis deal but he too is more of a grafter than a playmaker. I'm not wanting to jump on Megson too hard because we need the depth, but for crying out load where is that one real artist who can supply the strikers? . . . Elmander, by the way will have a break-out year if we find that missing part. How's that for confidence? "
