Drogba: Son made me change ways

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba decided to change his on-field behaviour after his son told him his reaction against Barcelona was out of order.

Drogba: Not a bad guy
Drogba: Not a bad guy

Drogba earned more than a three-game ban his protestations against referee Tom Henning Ovrebo after Chelsea's Champions League exit - he was also given a carpeting by a disapproving Isaac Drogba, eight.

The Ivorian forward told The Times: "I don't always worry about what people think, but on this occasion it was really important to come out and apologise because of kids watching the game.

"My son was watching with his friends from school and I was embarrassed by my behaviour. The good thing is Isaac came to me and said 'It's not right what you did Dad, you should have had more penalties but it's not right to do that to referees'.

"I told him never to do what I did. He's eight and he plays for Chelsea Under-9s but is very different to me, he's really calm.

"It was really difficult for me after the Barcelona game because I made a mistake but was frustrated that people didn't understand why I reacted. I apologised and everything but I also wanted to show I'm not the person people think I am.

"I'm not a bad guy, I just want to win and sometimes I react."

"Fair enough to the guy, let's see if he REALLY has matured and keeps all this theatrical stuff locked away. Potentially one of the worlds best on his day IMO"

"hopefully his son will be as good as him."

"Gentlemen...You're STILL not really watching Drogba! He DOESN'T dive; he has a bad habit of staying down too long after he's been fouled, but he doesn't dive. He is probably the most fouled player in the EPL, and Chelsea are rarely given the penalties they should have when DD is hacked down in the area, but you can't produce a video clip that shows him diving! The media started this myth, and have perpetuated it. Referees are gullible enough to fall for the hype, and so are you. Enjoy his play; he is the complete striker."
