Gianfranco Zola is confident of keeping star striker Carlton Cole, a reported January target for Liverpool and Manchester United, at West Ham.
Cole has been linked with moves to Anfield and Old Trafford in recent weeks after catching the eye for the Hammers this season.
Zola insists the former Chelsea hitman is happy at West Ham and that the club have no plans to sell the 26-year-old despite reported financial problems.
"Carlton is an important player for this team, not only because he scores goals but also for his presence," Zola told The Sun.
"I know Carlton wants to stay and is happy here. The club has no intention of selling him or any of our important players.
"He plays for us and we're very happy with him.
"We're going to make sure we can help him keep on scoring."

"quant (Liverpool fan) nice one matey. so you have agreed with me that he has spent money on established performing players? nice argument. as for crouch, do me a favour. he was resurgent at soton and i seem to remember being on of the prems top scorers the season before. thought bently was 15 mill and torres 22mill? dont get me wrong torres is a good player and good value a 30 mill!! but rafa didnt make him the player he is, athletico did. riera in my opinion isnt great, but had a good season in spain so rafa bought a form player? Mash was still about 20 mill and had a huge reputation so its hardley a punt. you make it sound like rafa is unearthing new talent? jog on sunshine. as far as talent ruined, ill make a start.....voronin, dossena, kuyt, babel, leto, pennant......... hahaha "

"alfred. Torres cost 2m more then bentley, and is now in the name your price category so please a bit of respect. reina 8m? a bargain. Agger 5m? Crouch 7m? he was being ridiculed by all and sundry when we bought him from southampton now look. Yossi at 7m? Bargain. Masch was on the bench at west ham when rafa took a punt on him now he's the best holding midfielder in the world. We could treble our money on most of those players just like he did on alonso and as for ngog at 1.5m... well if it was wenger we would all be going crazy as usual. Gerard's game has been tremendous under rafa. But what i want to know is which players careers has he ruined? You seem to know so much about rafa! Joker you are."

"he'll come to liverpool... we'll sign him for £30 million. He'll most probably get played on the right wing then we'll sell him for £3 miliion two seasons later."

"footballfan82. You are confused, the debate is not whether good players are bought or not, its whether he turns good players into bad and i would argue voronin and babel have never been good......I use berbatov, shevchenko, veron etc as examples of how already proven big money players can go backwards in a great team irrespective of who the manager is. So don't have a go at Rafa, he doesn't have the firepower of the others, voronin was a free transfer and lucas was £5m. Babel was £11m and has disappointed, no doubt about it, but then look at Nani at £16m or Anderson at £15m or Hargreaves who doesn't even play. United and Chelsea have so much financial firepower that if they get it wrong it's no big deal, can you imagine if Liverpool spent £30m on a complete flop? you lot would be going mental. Even Man city can spend £30m+ on somebody like Rohbinio who has disappointed big time and still all the heat is on Rafa."

"quant (Liverpool fan) surley your joking? what exactly did he do to torres and mascherano and benayoun and crouch and reina and alonso? other than buy talented footballers already getting rave reviews while playing in the best leagues in the world? and spent a lot of money doing it? and he has ruined more talent than he has made. the last time genuine top class talent came through liverpools ranks were gerrard and carra"

"Hes not that good. Hes def not worth 20 million. Maybe we could wait until WH get relegated then buy him for 6-7 mil. "

"No, i've said before, he's rubbish! Leave to rot at west ham, we don't mind. ;-)"
Razorhelge (Liverpool fan)
"Just what we need, a powerful striker who can take the heat of the main man, score a few himself, hold up the ball, win headers. He also seems like a no-nonsense character, in the sense that he wouldn“t whine about confidence all the time - just PLAY. Which I“d prefer our players to do. He could cost a bit, though, so I do not see it happening. Either way, he“s been great this season and good luck to him onwards. As with the Hammers and Zola too."
mattmufc (Manchester United fan)
"would love him at united, big strong hold up player good in the air and good at finishing."
