Highly-rated Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani is in talks with Premier League giants Arsenal, according to the player's agent.
The 23-year-old, capped four times by Italy and valued at around £12million, has been reported to be on Arsene Wenger's short-list of possible replacements for the Milan-bound Mathieu Flamini along with Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry and Manchester City youngster Michael Johnson.
Those reports looked well founded after Aquilani's agent, Vincenzo Morabito, told Italia Uno: "Aquilani is speaking to Arsenal. We will have to see if Roma will be able to match his demands."

"can see arsenal is giving wenger the support he needs and he is acting fast in the transfers which is important for pre-season training. What the is liverpool doing?"

"Problem is Wenger only buys surprises. Not sure if tha'st because of pride or all down to judgement. The interesting thing is buying relatively unknown players ALL the time. Something must be wrong somewhere with that. What Arsenal really need now is not another unknown. We already have plenty. We need some established good (young as well - no problem) good players (2 or 3) to make the current squad stronger. Ben Arfa is my dream choice, followed by Nasri and whoever else he chooses to buy in defence or else where. There will be no excuse if Arsenal wins nothing AGAIN next season. Wenger should not let all his impressive work of the past be forgotten by a string of disappointing seasons. Equally, Arsenal fans (including Wenger himself) should not dwell too much into past success. All that count is now. We should aspire to be the biggest club in the world. That means winning is very important. New supporters or neutrals will always join winning a team. Look at Chelsea, they noew have acquired many fans globally because of the success they have had recently. Those fans are the ones who buy the shirts etc. As a club, we can not overlook that. I'm sick of people who think that Wenger can not be challenged. If we are 100% happy with our team and his manager as it stands, then we are suggesting that Arsenal has no ambition to be counted as one of the very best. The best teams of this world are CONSTANTLY looking for ways of improving their squad."
