Gattuso aims to end career in Milan

AC Milan veteran midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has ended speculation on his future, claiming he wants to end his career at the San Siro.

The Italian press have strongly linked Gattuso with a move away from the Serie A giants this summer and reports earlier this month claimed Bayern Munich had reached an agreement with the 30-year-old and were set for talks with his club over a fee.

However, Gattuso and his agent met with Milan's general manager Adriano Galliani and coach Carlo Ancelotti and the Italy star insists he is now happy to remain with the Rossoneri at least until his contract runs out in 2011.

Gattuso claimed that the discussions were not about money but rather some concerns he had about the club.

"I'm not leaving because I have cleared up all my doubts," Gattuso said after the meeting.

"We have had some discussion in the past few days, but I have to underline that I have never talked about money.

"I want to end my career at Milan, I will definitely remain here until 2011. After 2011 I'll see what to do.

"I am proud to remain here also because you only have to look around you to see all the cups that have been won.

"And also because Milan is the most titled club in the world and without doubt one of the most important clubs in the world."

Gattuso has made over 300 appearances for Milan since joining from Salernitana in 1999, and has lifted the Champions League twice in a glittering career with the Rossoneri.

And, with Paolo Maldini possibly retiring at the end of the season, the World Cup winner admits he would love to take over the captain's armband before he brings his Milan career to a close.

"There are hierarchies and it's right to respect them," added the former Rangers player.

"At this time the captain is still Paolo Maldini and it's right that you talk about him as captain.

"Then, when he stops, it's up to Ambrosini to take it on as he is vice-captain.

"After him it will be me."
