Internationals are currently played on the middle Saturday and the following Wednesday during the two-week breaks.

Arsenal manager Wenger has in the past called for the games to be switched to the first week, and played on the Wednesday and the Saturday, and Jewell, who has Claude Davis, Lewin Nyatanga, Mile Sterjovski and Andrejs Pereplotkins on international duty, agrees with the idea.

"I think Arsene Wenger's got a case - and it's an open and shut case. It's absolutely right," Jewell told the Evening Telegraph.

"I mean, we are paying the players' wages and for managers, it really should be a week away and a week back for the players because it really is massively unjust on coaches and managers of football clubs who have players away on international duty.

"It's also not fair on the players and not fair on the fans. They are paying the wages of players and they don't know if they are going to come back tired, jaded, fit or unfit. So, it's a big issue and Arsene Wenger is definitely right in what he says."
