Arsene Wenger will move for Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh if Emmanuel Adebayor leaves, but the Arsenal boss is sure the striker will stay.
Adebayor has long been linked with a move to AC Milan and there has been speculation the Gunners are now willing to accept a big-money offer to create transfer funds.
It is also rumoued that Adebayor is keen to move in order to find success after seeing Arsenal's trophy drought continue last season but Wenger believes the 25-year-old, who joined the club in 2006, will remain in North London for the new campaign.
"If he does not want to stay, he will leave but I think that he will be still at Arsenal this season," the Frenchman told RMC.
If Adebayor does move on this summer Wenger has admitted he would Chamakh as a replacement.
Asked if the Morocco international is of interest, he said: "Yes, but only in the event of a departure."
Wenger has also confirmed he was tracking Karim Benzema before big-spending Real Madrid had a €35million (£30m) offer accepted for the Lyon striker.
When asked which French players he admired, Wenger said: "There is one who interested me but he (Karim Benzema) left for Madrid.
"I did not make an approach because I would never have thought that Lyon would sell this year."

"The only thing Adeybeyor has proven is that he is not a goal scorer. He had 1 good season and several average seasons. Arsenal wold be better off without him. "

"´Why would Arse nal want to keep Adebayor? He's not a very consistent goalgetter, and all his talk about moving can't be good for the moral within the club. Kick the clown out, he's a joke! Play Bendtner, he's commited to your club, and he's got more potential."

"I think adebayor should leave and allow the entry of marouane chamakh, cause adebayor is a wasteful striker.I also think we are in an urgent need for a defensive mid-fielder,ever since the exit of mathieu flamini ,there has not been a good replacement,i want wenger to do something fast and sign both a striker and a DMF before the close of the transfer window. "MS286 wenger didn't bring in bergkamp, bruce rioch did. Wenger did get the best out of him though."

"MS286 - you make a valid point with those quality signing Wenger made but you must conseade that since then he has made numerous young signings and virtually none of them have made a real impact. (excluding Wallcot) He needs to be prepared to buy proven quality or i think you will continue to struggle"

"glory-hunting retards are really starting to wind me up. if any of you had a bloody clue what you're talking about, you'd be involved in football yourselves in some way. anyone is entitled to an opinion, but sometimes people need to learn to keep them to themselves to stop them looking like glory-hunting idiots. "I sincerely hope that Adebayor leaves but not necessarily to be replaced by anyone else, I think that Huntellar or Benzema would have been great at the club but one of those has gone to Madrid and the other one is likely to stay there, I thimk we ahve enough up front for a success, the problem still remains a holding midfielder, if we don't get someone in that posistion then I afraid its another year without silverware and possibly out of the Champions League for the following season."

"You lot make me sick. Do you remember what it was like before Wenger came?
Were any of you moaning when he brought in Bergkamp, Viera, Petit, Overmars, Pires, Toure, Fabregas, Van Persie, Eduarado, Henry????
None of which were world class before they came here. Maybe if anyone supported Arsenal 15 years ago you wouldn't slate the team or players quite as much?

"I think all arsenal fans would agree that gettin 30 mill for this guy and Wenger should jump at the chance. At the end of the day he isnt a very good player. 4 seasons at arsenal and only once has he broken 20goals. The other 3 seasons he failed to push past 10 goals. That is shocking for a £30mill striker. "
