Harry eyeing swoop for London duo

Harry Redknapp has revealed that Shaun Wright-Phillips and Younes Kaboul want to move to Portsmouth, but he may have to sell before he can buy.

Redknapp has already committed £11million to Liverpool in exchange for England striker Peter Crouch, fears he has no more money to buy his other two top targets and would have to sell up to six of his current squad to get them.

Redknapp also admits he fears Aston Villa will beat Pompey to recruit French defender Kaboul because of the midlands club's greater spending power.

The Portsmouth boss has set his sights on bringing in another central defender to help ease the burden on captain Sol Campbell for a season which will be even more demanding now that FA Cup winners Pompey are in the UEFA Cup.

Redknapp whose squad could face an additional dozen games if they do well in Europe, said: "We are looking forward to the new season. We have Europe to look forward to for the first time in the club's history and that should be interesting.

"But the only thing which scares me is I think we are a little short on numbers in one or two areas. With the amount of games we have coming up it is going to be hard.

"It is hard for me to see somebody like Sol Campbell playing Saturday-Thursday-Sunday. I can't imagine him flying all around Europe in midweek and then playing at Old Trafford at the weekend.

"I think we have 20 good players here. And even though we've now also got Crouchie, a top signing, I think we still need two or three more. We haven't got any young players."

He told the Portsmouth News: "Nicky Shorey at Reading is someone who I like, but he isn't going to come cheaply. And I like Shaun Wright-Phillips.

"I know Shaun and his dad (former Arsenal and England ace Ian Wright) think Portsmouth would be a good move for him.

"And I would like a centre-half. Younes Kaboul wants to come here, but I heard Kaboul is going to Villa. I don't think there is anything he can do about it."

Spurs, who paid French club Auxerre £8.3million for Kaboul a year ago only for new boss Juande Ramos to largely leave him out of the side, naturally want to recoup much of their outlay.

And Redknapp admitted: "If Villa are in for him he may have to go there. We made an offer with what we thought was a fair valuation but if we want some (new) players in we also need to sell a few.

"We are only looking to get in top-drawer players now.

"I want to finish in the top six if I can but, as I always say, a top-10 finish in the Premier League is always brilliant for anybody apart from the (usual) top four."

"Re-reading this, its a bit disrespectful to us. "he wants to come here but he's probably going to have to settle for Villa if we dont make a bid." Just leave us out of it Harry, still got your knickers in a twist because a few of our fans managed to wind you up?"
