O'Neill denies interest in Zigic

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has dismissed reports linking the Villans with a £5million move for Valencia striker Nikola Zigic.

Speculation suggested Villa had tabled an offer for the giant forward, with Valencia director Juan Sanchez quoted as saying the Midlands club were leading the hunt for Zigic.

But O'Neill has moved to reject the speculation and says he is in the dark over the reports.

"There's not a grain of truth in the story that we've put in an offer for the player and I don't know where it is coming from," O'Neill told the club's official website. "I don't even know who the player's agent is.

"I wouldn't normally comment but there have been so many stories claiming this as fact and people have been quoted.

"They're completely wide of the mark. So I felt I had to put the record straight."

"with carew upfront villa don't need zigic. bentley, lennon, silva would all be nice signings to play on the right wing though."

"ahhh so we dont want him...of course we dont....Oneil would never sign a player would he....!! this is turning into a joke...oneil doesn,t have any clue as to who and how to sign players..its plainly obvious!!!!!!! a month till season starts and were still 6-7 players short....your supposed to sign players u want early so they can have a pre-season and bond with squad....not 5 minutes before the window closes!!"
