Balde 'still stands out' for McLeish

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has revealed he is still trying to sign Celtic defender Bobo Balde before the transfer window closes.

The 32-year-old gargantuan, who has been out of favour at Parkhead for some time and whose contract expires next summer, has reportedly been told he can leave Celtic on a free transfer.

He appeared set for a move to Birmingham at the end of last month but the deal fell through.

McLeish said in the Daily Record: "Bobo's on international duty with Guinea at the moment so we can't take things any further until he gets back.

"But we are hopeful a deal could be done. We've looked at a million centre-backs and Balde is still the one who stands out."
