Ian Henderson scored twice as Northampton reserves beat a strong Birmingham side 3-2 in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday.
A Blues side containing Franck Queudrue, Martin Taylor, Gary McSheffrey and Marcus Bent raced into a 2-0 first-half lead.
However, the Cobblers hit back after the restart with goals from Henderson (two) and Shawn Richards.
"It was a pleasing performance against a team full of quality players," said reserve team boss Ian Sampson.
"We started brightly but then lost our shape a little and found ourselves two goals down as we were punished. But we showed fantastic character to come back and score three times in the second half.
"Chris Doig got a full 90 minutes under his belt and Leon Constantine, Giles Coke and Ryan Gilligan all got 70 minutes in what was a very good work out for us."
