Blues gaffer admits interest in Bale

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish admits Spurs star Gareth Bale is a player he is keeping an eye on as he bids to lure more new faces to St Andrews.

Bale: On McLeish's radar

The Scottish tactician has been one of the busiest top-flight bosses to date since the close of last season, landing a number of signings as he looks to establish Birmingham in the Premier League.

Bale is thought to be one of a number of Tottenham players that Harry Redknapp would be willing to listen to offers for and it is not anticipated the talented left-back will be short of suitors.

The Welshman's time in North London has been plagued by injuries and a lack of consistency but should Spurs be ready to do business, McLeish would be at the front of the queue.

"Gareth Bale is another name we'd have to consider if he was available," he told Sky Sports News.

McLeish went on to praise his board for backing him unequivocally in the transfer market over the summer: "We've certainly shown a bit of ambition with the money splashed out on the young centre-halves.

"With (Christian) Benitez coming in as well, for what was decent money, I couldn't say I've not been given support by the board - that would be ridiculous."

"only the spuds would turn a brilliant prospects like bale and modric into average players"

Frankie Hoddle (Tottenham Hotspur fan)

"Bale is a talented player, he has pace strength and a great left foot but let's face it he has had back luck with injuries he is still a teenager and he's Welsh. None of these things make for smooth integration into a hugely demanding club but the lad will get there and I do not believce it is beyond him to be a world class player."

"Sell."

boneil (Tottenham Hotspur fan)

"Sell Bale for 50p, that way we would be getting double his worth. Most overrated player ever to sign for Spurs and we have a few over the years.!"

agenblue (Tottenham Hotspur fan)

"it will prove a stupid decision to sell him, he may have been here for 2 years but let's not forget how young he is and how many manager he had to work with and all those time he was force out by injury. this guy is low in confidence now but will prove to be a very good player when he eventually fulfill his pontential, harry should start him on left mid as he has best left foot and than he can start playing left back again once he gets his match fitness and confindence back. we should protect just like what arsenal is doing for walcott, man utd to ronaldo."

kevingh18 (Manchester United fan)

"most of the gud prospects are going down at tottenham! wat a waste of good talent!"

Dumi

"Slow and overweight....12mil will do nicely...the lad has lost all his confidence and needs a change of environment to rediscover himself...doubt he can do it at spurs...just too unmotivated and demoralised at WHL...good luck Bale, might turn out to be a good player eventually....but spurs cannot wait 4-5 years for him...let him go but only at the right price. he has had more chances than Bostock, GDS, Taraabt and has proved to be a flop every game...just can't do his job at spurs."

southern spur (Tottenham Hotspur fan)

"There is no way that harry is stupid enough to let bale go. Had a poor season but its so easy to forget how young he is. Look at lennon last season he was our best player but the one before he was terrible .... they just need time."

rkospear (Chelsea fan)

"gareth bale has a potential to be world class.. give him time man redknapp! like how you gave lampard time to bloom!"
