Blues chief cools talk of Sheva bid

Birmingham boss Alex McLeish has rejected reports linking the Midlands club with a move for former Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko.

Shevchenko: No Birmingham move on cards

Reports earlier this week claimed Blues owner Carson Yeung was keen on luring Dynamo Kiev hitman Shevchenko back to England.

New Blues vice-chairman Sammy Yu has been drawing up a shortlist of players with McLeish ahead of the January transfer window.

However, McLeish insists a move for Shevchenko has not been discussed and that he hopes to bring in three or four players in January to strengthen the squad at St Andrew's.

Asked about the link with Shevchenko, McLeish told Sky Sports News: "Sammy [Yu] has not told me that.

"I read it in the paper, but I've not heard anything about Shevchenko."

McLeish is working hard on bringing new faces to the club and he believes new additions are needed to improve the squad.

"We have got to see if certain players want to come to Birmingham as well as a load of other obstacles, but we will try and enhance the squad, enhance the quality with three maybe four players," added McLeish.

"clearly obvious from sheva's stint at chelsea that he is not suited to the premier league, whether it was because of pace the pace of the game in england or he wasnt mentally up to it. 9 goals in 48 league games isnt exactly inspiring for a 30 million pound striker"

"I am obviously pleased that we have new investors but I would honestly prefer no foreign investors! then at least we would see a rotation of teams winning things not the same ones!

I have had a season ticket for the last 15 years! and am proud to have supported my local team!

I doubt the same can be said for you wenster as you are not from manchester!"

"Yah bet you don't complain about the money coming from hong kong, russia or middle east. International fans are the ones making the epl profitable. So before you say where you live, how about how much money you spend on the club to keep it going! Support comes in many ways, not just because you stay next to the stadium "
