Rovers ponder bid for star Barnes

Blackburn boss Mark Hughes is reportedly ready to make a bid for Derby's Giles Barnes even though he is unlikely to be fit until October.

Midfield star Barnes played a starring role in steering the Rams into the Premier League - but missed most of their disastrous campaign in the top flight due to injury.

The 19-year-old is currently recovering from a knee injury - and boss Paul Jewell admits he won't be fit until "September or October".

Rovers gaffer Hughes is ready to take a gamble on Barnes, though, as there is uncertainty over veteran playmaker Tugay's future at Ewood, while right winger David Bentley is high on Liverpool's shopping list.

"He's a got big ego for such an average player. It would be better for him to go back to where he belongs, to the championship. I must have seen him on 20 occasions and this guy is rubbish, a poor mans Jermaine Pennant."

Faroese_Rover (Blackburn Rovers fan)

"Sounds good to me! He's injured, so that should take a huge chunk off Derbys asking price...?"

gojohnniegogo (Blackburn Rovers fan)

"Could be a good signing for Rovers, and best we sign someone early rather than wait until someone leaves. Hopefully we can hold on to our best players this summer - that has to be the priority."
