Rovers reject £12m bid for Bentley

Blackburn chief John Williams has revealed they have snubbed a straight cash bid - thought to be £12million - from Tottenham for David Bentley.

Bentley: Spurs approach rejected

After weeks of speculation, Spurs finally made their interest in Bentley official when they lodged a formal offer for the 23-year-old.

However, it is understood that the offer made was significantly less than the £15million Villa bid for the player earlier in the summer.

Williams told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: "We've had bids from two clubs for David Bentley; one when Mark Hughes was manager, and the other very recently. They have both been rejected."

The Rovers chairman also confirmed the club had turned down a formal bid - believed to be from Newcastle - for defender Stephen Warnock.

"We've had a bid of £2million," Williams added. "It was rejected and the club concerned has been told he is not for sale."

"He may be expensive now, but if the new rules of minimum of 5 english players in a line-up come in, he will be priceless. I say we need him, swap lennon as part of a deal too "

LedleyZeppelin (Tottenham Hotspur fan)

"If Blackburn don't want to sell him fine, but we can't pay more than £12m for him. You can someone from outside the Premiership for 8 or 9 million. "

milkofredde (Blackburn Rovers fan)

"12 million? That's an insult! Come back with a proper offer or don't come back at all!"
