Rovers set high price for Bentley

Blackburn would consider selling England star David Bentley - but only for the right price, the club's chairman John Williams has confirmed.

Rovers have had two bids for the 23-year-old, from Tottenham and Aston Villa, but neither has come anywhere close to the price Blackburn believe Bentley is worth.

It is thought Blackburn would want more than £18million for the former Arsenal player, who has already made it clear he wants to move, though ideally to a club playing in the Champions League.

If they do receive a bid at the required level, then manager Paul Ince will have the final say.

Williams said: "We have received two bids but neither have come anywhere close to our valuation which is based in line with how we see the market.

"We don't want to lose David but if we do get a bid that meets our valuation then ultimately it comes down to a football decision by Paul.

"David is one year into a four-year contract but he told us when Mark Hughes was here that he wanted a move so this doesn't come as a shock to us."

Bentley has travelled to Germany with the rest of the Blackburn squad but may return early after picking up a hamstring injury.

"Bentley is Blackburn's only creative player last season....if they lose him....Blackburn will struggle BIG TIME also considering Paul Ince being an inexperienced manager on the big stage....Santa Cruz will struggle too without much assists...so it would be ideal for him to move to a bigger team like Man U or Arsenal "

"well done rovers for saying we wont accept less than 18m, i do hope we sell him though as id rather have the cash and buy players that want to play for us and wont unsettle the dressing room. He as to be worth it though an England player only 23 years old. PLease though i hope we keep hold of santa cruz "

"Liverbird_song (lfc fan) - This is nothing like the Barry saga, we offered, they said no, we havent carried on chasing the player and said we will move on to other targets! The fat waiter Rafa has constantly given offers below the valuation making this transfer saga very boring and dragged out far longer than need be. The way O'neill has gone about it was the right way, this bid was rejected long before it reached the press, he doesnt want to pay what blackburn want so there has declared no further interest in the player, maybe your management should take some pointers!"
