Nelsen demands end to mistakes

Blackburn captain Ryan Nelsen has admitted it is "absolutely ridiculous" the number of mistakes the side are making this season.

Rovers have not won in eight Premier League matches, slumping to next-bottom in the table, but Nelsen has told his team-mates they need to stop feeling sorry for themselves.

Martin Olsson's error resulted in a 1-0 defeat at Tottenham at the weekend and the New Zealand centre-back insists it has to stop.

"You can't fault the work ethic but one mistake cost us a goal and cost us the game," he said. "It has been happening all season. We have just got to cut it out - it is absolutely ridiculous.

"It is very annoying at the moment and then, when we get chances, we are not putting them away either.

"Not very many teams have had to win games against us this season because we've given teams games with silly mistakes.

"We have got to stop making these mistakes and start grinding out results."

Rovers head to eighth-placed Portsmouth on Sunday and Nelsen said they have to get something out of the match to stop the rot.

Only newly-promoted West Brom are below them in the table but as they are only two points behind a win for the Baggies at Wigan on Saturday would put Rovers bottom.

"You never like looking up but it just means we have to start getting points and getting them quick," the 31-year-old told Rovers World.

"We are in an awkward position now. There is a still a long way to go but come next Sunday against Portsmouth we are going to be determined to get points.

"It (the win-less run) is killing us at the moment. We need to get the winning feeling back and get it back quick.

"We need to win ugly maybe and stop feeling sorry for ourselves.

"We have to get in to training, work hard and I think everyone can't wait until Sunday."
