Baggies boss denies Meite bid

West Brom boss Tony Mowbray has denied making a £1million bid for Bolton's Abdoulaye Meite - dismissing reports he has as "just speculation".

It had been claimed that Bolton turned down a £1million offer from the Premier League new boys for Meite earlier this week, but Mowbray has denied any interest in the defender.

He told the Birmingham Mail: "There's nothing happening there. If comments have come out of Bolton then that's disappointing but it's just speculation and no more."

Meanwhile Mowbray says he will not follow the lead of Stoke boss Tony Pulis by setting Scott Carson a deadline to decide on a move to The Hawthorns.

The Potters dropped out of the race on Thursday as Carson continued to stall making a decision, and have now turned their attentions elsewhere.

Mowbray, though, is happy for the goalkeeper to take his time - but will move on if the 22-year-old decides on a switch to either Middlesbrough or Blackburn, who are now favourites to land him.

Mowbray said: "We've had conversations but we cant say any more as it may come to nothing more - we don't know.

"There is nothing to comment on at the moment.

"We haven't set a timescale and we may hear no more about it.

"Things will either move along or they won't "
