Nolan: United didn't want penalty

Bolton captain Kevin Nolan claims even Manchester United's players were baffled by Rob Styles' penalty decision on Saturday.

Ronaldo: Wins United's penalty
Ronaldo: Wins United's penalty

Styles awarded a spot-kick at Old Trafford following Jlloyd Samuel's tackle on Cristiano Ronaldo with the score at 0-0 after an hour.

Samuel won the ball in the challenge, with Ronaldo going to ground under the challenge before stepping up to convert the penalty.

United went on to win the match 2-0, but the incident proved to be the turning point, with Nolan revealing the champions were also surprised by Styles' decision.

"Ronaldo was on the floor saying, 'I didn't want a penalty!'," said Nolan in the Daily Mail.

"I don't think one of them put their hands up asking for a penalty. Fletcher's going, 'It's not a penalty', Tevez is going, 'It's not a penalty'. Twenty players who were in the box at the time knew it wasn't a penalty.

"But the man who was in black had the final say. They couldn't believe their luck.

"But you're at United and unfortunately that happens.

"It does strike fear into you when you look at this magnificent stadium. Maybe that's what's happened to the referee. He said he thought Jlloyd took Ronaldo before the ball.

"It didn't make sense to me at all. But I can't say too much or I'm going to get done by the FA."

"Rob Styles is an awful referee!! end of.. he's a big team ref, and there's no place for that in football!!

As if there isn't a big enough advantage as it is, Mr Styles becomes the 13th man!! like he usually does when refereeing a top 4 team!

The guy is a joke! he shouldn't even ref in sunday league!"

Snoop (Manchester United fan)

"To all the Pool and Arse Fans like 'Arseneal the sour grapes fool' carrying on about United will win the title because of ref calls going thier way. what about the 2 ligit penalties against Liverpool for Park and the penalty that wasnt given for Ronaldo when Portsmouth beat us in the FA Cup - ending all treble hopes. Grow up - sometimes you get the rub of the green, sometimes you dont - thats football! "

"given all the fusss over the penalty nothings been said of sytes performance before the pen in the ifrst hf he booked two boton pyers for nothing yet let two bd fouls on ronaldo by other players go unpunnished

Think thos has been one bad perfromance to many from styles expect to see him demoted soon "

"boozer, Arsenal fan. Seems you are the one who know best at who cheats. What is the saying "Same old arsenal always WHAT??""

YCSYFEUYA (Manchester United fan)

"I thought it was a penalty."

Canadian Villan (Aston Villa fan)

"If Ronaldo knew in his own mind it wasn't a penalty, then why not do the honest thing like Fowler did a few years back, and miss it. If you know it's not right, then don't score from the kick. But then ROBBIE got stick for many a year for his honesty, so who wins? The ref in the bookies shop I guess."

realkidvicious (Manchester United fan)

"Boozer, how did Man U cheat when they were as suprised as Bolton when the penalty came? Just because the ref made a mistake in United's favour doesn't mean United are cheating. Sounds like jealousy to me, must be a few cobwebs on that Arsenal trophy cabinet nowadays."

MESSIADH (Manchester United fan)

"chris_huggett.. neither do u !!"

"no doubt all ronaldo will is get slated but hands up to nolan who to all those who didnt know he was actually there, ronaldo said no penalty.shows the man isnt as bad as all liverpool n chelsji fans think."
