Styles gave a spot-kick with the score locked at 0-0 on Saturday, however replays showed that Bolton defender Jlloyd Samuel won the ball off Cristiano Ronaldo who did not even appeal for a foul.

United went on to win Saturday's match 2-0.

The 44-year-old official subsequently admitted he had made an error and was handed another Premier League assignment this weekend, in the Tottenham v Hull match.

Bolton manager Megson today revealed he has spoken to Styles and holds no grudge against him.

Nevertheless, Megson is keen to see referees handed the option of using video technology to aid difficult decisions.

"We spoke on Monday but I'm not going to go into detail because it's private. We had a conversation for about 25 minutes, but one thing I can say is that we agreed that the behaviour of the players was terrific after a huge error," Megson told the club's website.

"It's gone now and we can't do anything about it. It was an error and everybody knew it was an error, but these things do have a tendency to even themselves out.

"I think he's a good referee and he made a mistake and everybody does that. He'd be welcome here or indeed if we got him away from home again.

"I don't think any of the Premier League referees should be demoted for making mistakes. I don't see what it would do at all and we have to be a bit more forward looking than that."

And Megson refutes the suggestion that the addition of technology would have a negative impact on the pace of the game.

"One of the things that I do feel would help, and I've mentioned it before, is the aid of technology - it wouldn't slow the game down at all," he added.

"Last season we had a live feed and one with a 15-second delay, so we could see everything we wanted to.

"The referee is wired to the fourth officials and all that would have taken on Saturday if we'd had that delay is for him to get on the microphone once that decision is made and say 'you got that one wrong' and off we go again.

"I'm sure everyone would want the game to be refereed right rather than to be done five seconds quicker."
