West Ham manager Gianfranco Zola insists he appreciates Bolton's physical style as Upton Park prepares for a clash of cultures on Sunday.
The Hammers are seeking a third straight Premier League victory under Zola, while Bolton will attempt to muscle their way to a first win in the capital in 16 games.
Zola is keen to honour West Ham's tradition of playing passing football but the former Italy striker understands why the Trotters observe their own philosophy.
"Bolton are certainly a straightforward team. They are very direct and are a side we must respect," he said.
"Football is good because there are different ways to see it and play. I don't mind Bolton. They have got their own way, I've got mine.
"Maybe they don't like the way we play but I respect them and so far they have done well."
Zola added: "In their last game they lost 2-0 to Manchester United but they were unlucky as they played very well.
"It's going to be very tough because they'll put bodies behind the ball and are also a threat from set-pieces.
"We will need to perform very well if we want to beat them."
Zola must decide whether to include Craig Bellamy in the line-up tomorrow with the Wales striker pressing hard for his first start of the season.
He has made two substitute appearances since recovering from groin surgery and Zola has been encouraged by his progress.
"This week Craig has worked very hard and very well. I'm very impressed with him. He is fit," he said.
"He knows that the team is playing well and he will get his chance to play. He knows he is a very important part of this team.
"Against Fulham he played 20 minutes and maybe tomorrow he will play more, we will have to see.
"But even if he doesn't play straight away he knows that he's a very important player for this club."
Zola has masterminded victories over Newcastle and Fulham since taking charge last month but the likeable Italian refuses to declare himself a success so early in his reign.
"I have just played three games - I wouldn't say I have won the supporters over just yet," he said.
"But I'm on the way and I'm looking forward to continuing this for as long as possible."
