Mokoena's contract expires at the end of the season and it is not expected to be renewed by Paul Ince. The 27-year-old was linked with Stoke and Manchester City in the summer and, although a move never materialsed, has not been a regular in Rovers' side so far this term.

And the Daily Mirror claims Megson wants to add him to his ranks at the Reebok Stadium for a nominal fee in January.

"mutual chump - the day Bolton are owned by a billionaire is the day we'll sign someone 'who can win a game by themselves'. See this as a replacement for McCann or Joey O'Brien, if there's anything in the story - it's from the MIRROR! We're also after Joe Ledley from Cardiff, an exciting attacking young player - feel better?"
