Kevin Davies has revealed that negative jibes about Bolton's style of play spurred the team on to victory against West Ham on Sunday.
The striker opened the scoring for Wanderers before Gary Cahill and Matt Taylor struck to give the visitors a 3-1 win and end the club's five-match winless streak.
Gary Megson's side have often been criticised for their style of play, but Davies insists that helps the team perform, rather than hinder them.
He told the club's official website: "We don't mind that we have that reputation. It makes us a bit more comfortable because it puts less pressure on us.
"We have been struggling a bit for points of late but the performances have been good and we have tried to carry that on against lesser teams and I thought we'd get the points.
"I was delighted to have scored. The win was a big boost for us and hopefully we can go on a run now."
