Johan feels the need for speed

Bolton's record signing Johan Elmander has admitted he needs more speed after only finding the net once so far this term.

Elmander: Struggling to adapt
Elmander: Struggling to adapt

The Swedish international is still searching for the sort of form which earned him an £11million move from Toulouse in the summer.

He enjoyed a dream start when scoring against Stoke on the opening day of the season.

But he has since failed to find the net and again drew a blank in his country's goalless draw with Portugal on Saturday, where he missed several chances.

Having now played in several top-flight games, the striker admits he needs more speed in a league where a lot of foreign players struggle to adapt to arguably the fastest tempo in the world.

The 27-year-old, who should feature for the Trotters against Blackburn on Saturday, told the Manchester Evening News: "I would lie if I say that I am on top form.

"I am lacking touches of the ball and speed."
