Samuel seeks Spurs slaughter

Bolton full-back Jlloyd Samuel wants the Trotters to pile further misery on hapless Tottenham when the two sides meet on Sunday.

With Spurs continuing to prop up the Premier League table, the north London outfit find themselves under mounting pressure.

Manager Juande Ramos is starting to feel the heat and must begin to turn things around at White Hart Lane if he has any ambitions of holding onto his job.

Bolton are faring marginally better than their weekend opponents, but have only secured two victories in their eight top flight fixtures so far.

However, Samuel believes a hard-fought goalless draw against Blackburn on Saturday has the Trotters heading in the right direction.

"The result against Blackburn leaves us in good stead for Tottenham as four points from our last two games isn't bad," the defender told the Manchester Evening News.

"So, this weekend I think we can go down there, be positive and take all three points again.

"We would have liked all three points against Blackburn and we had the chances to do so.

"But we need to be more ruthless and put our chances away.

"It's a positive that we are doing better than we were at this stage last season and we are going in the right direction because the performances are there.

"The clean sheet is a bonus we can take from the game.

"But we are all disappointed that we didn't take the three points. Maybe last year we would have accepted that, but now we really want to push on."

Meanwhile, Bolton boss Gary Megson does not expect Tottenham's UEFA Cup exertions against Udinese on Thursday to have any bearing on the level of their performance.

"How we went on in Europe (last season) didn't make a great deal of difference to our results in the Premier League last season," Megson told The Bolton Evening News.

"We got some great results, particularly away from home, but it didn't always follow that we would get one in the league.

"The two situations are slight different anyway - Tottenham have only played eight games, we were in their position last season after about 28 games.

"They will pick a side to get a result against Udinese. It might not be as good a result as it might have been because they will have one eye on our game on Sunday."
