Charlton Athletic midfielder Darren Ambrose has undergone a hip operation which is expected to sideline him for three months.
The former Newcastle and Ipswich star went under the knife in a bid to cure a groin problem which has dogged him for three years.
"I've been fairly lucky with injuries over the years. This is the first operation I've had," he said.
"It's frustrating when you consider I've had the problem for three years now. I just wish it had been discovered sooner. And it's annoying that I might miss a bit of the season as it's an important one for us next year.
"There are a lot of good players coming through and I may have to bide my time to get back in the team."
