Pompey call off Primus loan move

Portsmouth have called off veteran defender Linvoy Primus' move to Charlton after refusing to let him go for more than six months.

Charlton, the club where Primus - who turns 35 next month - started his career, wanted to take the centre-back on a season-long loan to fill the gap left by Madjid Bougherra's departure to Rangers.

Primus has not played a league match for nearly 18 months after needing surgery for a severe knee injury and Pompey were happy to let him regain full match fitness in a spell at The Valley after he only recently signed a new one-year deal at Fratton Park.

But manager Harry Redknapp insisted he would only allow the loan to last until the end of December and his stance has forced the deal to be shelved.

"I know Charlton have finished in the top 10 of the prem at least a few times and were the blueprint for many sides aiming to establish themselves. But Pompey deserve to be in the championship? Come on?! I will carry on enjoying it thanks I'm sure we have a fair while left yet!"

"gareth...pfc, we have been there and worn the tee shirt mate. Lost count how many times we have finished in the top ten in the EPL. Make the most of it while it lasts won't you."
