Varney: Addicks can win promotion

Striker Luke Varney insists Charlton are capable of mounting a successful bid for promotion despite last term's disappointment.

The Addicks were among the favourites to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt last season, but fell away alarmingly and ended up finishing 11th.

But Varney, who opened his account for the season in Saturday's 4-2 win over Reading, remains confident they can reach the top flight.

"I've always been the sort of person who aims high and the sky's the limit," he said.

"I can see myself getting promoted to the Premier League with Charlton, and that's the aim."
