Hull manager Phil Brown has conceded he is unlikely to complete any deal to bring Chelsea striker Claudio Pizarro to the KC Stadium.
Brown confirmed earlier this week he had made contact with the Blues with a view to agreeing a deal for the Peruvian forward.
Stoke have also been linked with a bid for Pizarro, who moved to Stamford Bridge from Bayern Munich last summer.
Reports suggest new Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari is willing to offload Pizarro before the close of the transfer window.
However Tigers manager Brown feels that a deal to take Pizarro to Humberside is likely to be too expensive.
"It doesn't look likely that it's going to happen" Brown told the Hull Daily Mail.
"We asked what any deal would cost and then we tried to be creative with it. You've got to be creative once the figures are out of your reach.
"If you've got a receptive selling club then you've got a chance. But the ins and outs of the deal make it a very expensive one."

"I'm shocked, from watching Pizarro last season I would have placed his worth at around the £300 to £400 mark. Surely Hull or Stoke could afford the £1000 fee to prize him from the bridge. pure dung."
