Terry thanks loyal Chelsea fans

Embattled Chelsea captain John Terry has thanked the club's fans for their support in the wake of allegations about his private life.

Terry was stripped of the England captaincy by Fabio Capello as a result of his alleged affair with Vanessa Perroncel, the ex-girlfriend of former Chelsea team-mate Wayne Bridge.

The 29-year-old has refused to comment on the allegations but broke his silence to speak to the club's TV channel.

Terry told Chelsea TV following the Blues' 2-0 victory over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday: "On a personal note, I would like to thank every single fan.

"It's been an emotional day for myself and how the fans have been with me over the last two weeks has been quite incredible.

"I didn't expect that today and I would like to thank every single individual fan for the way they treated me.

"It was a great performance and, I mean it from my heart, I would like to thank everyone."

"Evil_Nevets (Arsenal fan) very true mate, quite nice to see some oppositions fans not necessarily supporting terry, but thinking 'why the hell does his personal life matter to football' It really shouldn't because we need to win the world cup, so badly. Nice one mate, all the best!"

"RE: Chelsea_til_i_die.

Fair play to Bridge then! I'm not knocking JT himself, just think it's all been blown out of all proportion - by everyone!"

"Evil_Nevets (Arsenal fan) well apparently they have spoken and bridge just wants to move on and get on with the football. I say good on the lad specially if he wants to go to south africa. The sooner the papers and opposing fans drop the matter, the better.......for England's sake!"

Bitter_Blue (Chelsea fan)

"George Best, Cantona, Sheringham/Cole, Gerrard, Rooney, Ferdinand. you've all had heroes who've been up to no good, and you're all pathetic enough to try and finish off your best centre half in the lead up to the world cup."

Evil_Nevets (Arsenal fan)

"Errr.... does anyone think he should be apologising to Wayne Bridge? It's the golden rule, you don't mess about with your mate's girlfriend/wife/ex - simples!

Personally I don't think he should have been strippd of the Captaincy, there are no other players who have his leadership, however, will he have 100% of the players support? Who knows?

But lastly, once again a big thank you to the press who once again on the run up to a World Cup are constantly determined to put a spanner in the England works, anyone remember the Dentist Chair, Gazza's Kebab, etc, etc! "

"Right...so now we should start supporting everyone who's married and has affairs...BRAVO. Feels pretty sorry for his family. CHEAP CHEAP. C'mon all you idols, legends...sc*ew around. Fans will love you more...."

"i forgot that new england captain didnt deliberately miss a drugs test....(something deliberately related to the sport not private life) ok, gerard getting arrested for battering some random dude was proved not guilty....next capello will be appointing adrian mutu as a special advisor on team nutrition"

"soeren79 (Manchester United fan) How Terry apologies to his missus is his private business. Why do it on the media and let the papers have another round of circus??? You mean everytime you upset your missus you would do public apology on the daily??? Wow, that is worth saluting, maybe England should give the armband to you. "

bananashark (Manchester City fan)

"The drivel written about this affair not affecting his ability to captain his teams is ridiculous. How can his teammates for both England and Chelsea trust him when he has committed adultery with the fiance of one of his teammates? This has to affect the players opinion of him and also their trust in their captain. No teammates will publicly condemn him as this could affect their positions, but inwardly they will be concerned about his actions.

John Terry is a fantastic player, but what he has done especially with a teammate's fiance whether she was at the time, or not, is despicable and he deserves every bit of criticism and sanction he receives."
