Everton sent scouts to Holland last weekend for another check on long-term target, Heerenveen's USA international midfielder Michael Bradley.
But the 20 year-old's involvement lasted only 38 minutes before he was sent-off for a second bookable offence in the 3-1 defeat by Ajax.
Bradley has only one year left on his contract and would cost around £3million. Everton are expected to release loan signings Thomas Gravesen and Anthony Gardner while goalkeeper Stefan Wessels is not expected to be offered a new contract.
The Toffees are also be trying to off-load winger Andy van der Meyde, who still has a year of his contract to run.
