Davis dreams of double celebration

Steven Davis enjoyed watching parent club Fulham's great escape and hopes to be celebrating come the end of Rangers' own epic campaign.

The midfielder left behind a club embroiled in an English Premier League relegation battle when he arrived at Ibrox on loan in January with the intention of winning silverware with the team he supported as a youngster in Northern Ireland.

Although hopes of winning the UEFA Cup are now gone, Davis has already had a taste for success with the CIS Insurance Cup and has now targeted a domestic treble before deciding where his future lies next season.

"I went from one end of the spectrum to another when I came here from Fulham," he said.

"It's been a great experience and something I've really enjoyed. I just hope we can see it through and end the season with three trophies.

"Nobody gave Fulham any hope and with five games to go everybody said they were down.

"But they managed to get out of it and I'm delighted for them. Hopefully, I can finish my own season on a high as well.

"I've still kept in touch with the lads and spoke to them throughout their last few games. I haven't spoken to the manager.

"I will finish the season first and then take it from there. I haven't given my future any thought because there has been so many games and such important games."

Davis admits his time with Rangers has exceeded all expectations but is now hungry for more success.

He added: "When I made the move I was hoping to make a big impact and play in as many games as possible.

"But I didn't foresee getting to a UEFA Cup final. I'm delighted with the way things have gone and now I want to finish on high.

"The aim is the treble and that would still be an unbelievable achievement. There is a week to go and we want to see it through.

"We don't want to end up majorly disappointed after all the hard work the boys have put in.

"It's been an unbelievable effort from all the boys given the amount of fixtures we've had.

"It's been a real squad effort and we don't want it to fall flat now. We are determined not to let that happen."

The 2-0 defeat to Zenit St Petersburg in Manchester was undoubtedly a psychological blow to a team who will have played a staggering 68 matches when the season comes to a close.

But Davis has no fears about losing momentum with the finishing line now in sight.

"I don't think so," he said.

"Everybody is positive and looking to go on and clinch the title and we are confident we can do that.

"There are a lot of positives we can take out of Wednesday. To reach a European final is massive thing and something that was a great achievement for the club.

"People always say you never really enjoy cup finals if you are on the losing side and that was definitely the case.

"But, looking back when I'm a bit older, I will cherish the occasion."
