Fulham warned off bid for Greening

West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace has told suitors Fulham not to bother making a bid for midfield playmaker Jonathan Greening this summer.

Cottagers boss Roy Hodgson has been linked with a £2million bid for 30-year-old Greening, having successfully raided The Hawthorns to recruit Hungary star Zoltan Gera last summer.

But Peace insists the Baggies are under no pressure to sell their star players despite relegation from the Premier League - and has claimed the club are in talks with Greening over a new deal, despite him having two years to run on his current contract.

New manager Roberto Di Matteo will cast his eye over the Albion squad over the next few weeks, but it is believed that Greening is key to his plans for the club having led them to promotion as champions last time they were in the Championship under Tony Mowbray.

Peace told the Express & Star: "There is a lot of stuff swirling around out there about Jonno at the moment - but we do not have to do business and we won't be doing business with our best players.

"We are cash-neutral so we can afford to buy before we sell but we won't sell our crown jewels. Our goal is to try and stay in the Premier League over time."

"Hope he doesn't go, we hit good form last season until he got injured, you may not realise it but he does an awful lot for the team. I don't think he should be captain though, no disrespect but the guy isn't too gifted between the ears. Good player none the less."

"jaybee82, "What's with the personal insults?" You're a Wolves fan, commenting on a WBA story (for no reason other than baiting) saying that Peace needs to show more class by letting our top players go for low money... and I'm insulting?

Like I said, you have no idea if Greening has turned down a contract and in any case he still has 2 years left to run. I also don't really think you're so naive as to believe everything you read in the press - from which I can only deduce that you enjoy commenting on your rivals stories because you seem to get some sort of kick out of it.

Any real Wolves fan would not give a t*ss about commenting on WBA stories, unless it was relevant to Wolves..

I could continue, but it's boring and you need to focus all your energies on the challenge that awaits you come kick off time."

"Greening can play anywher across the midfield for those saying he is a left sided player. Only think he make a backup player along fulhams midfield though if they want him we should try and exchange him back for Gera!"

jaybee82 (Wolverhampton Wanderers fan)

"leam, what the hell is with the personal insults? i commented on a footballing article and made a valid point, and you're giving me abuse for it? really classy and manly to do that behind a computer."

Craig_W_ (Fulham fan)

"What about bale? he is NOT the answer. We have left sided players already such as Bouazza. I do admit we need a left sided player but surely a decent striker is needed first. We managed last season without a ."

sircraven (Fulham fan)

"ANOTHER right mid. good god, looking rather like we just gonna field an entire team of right sided players ... WHAT ABOUT BALE!!!!!!!!!!"

Craig_W_ (Fulham fan)

"I think you can keep him, I mean our record with old WBA players isnt great:

-Gera=Poor

-Zuberbuhler=We dont know he has played once

-Kamara=Paid too much"

Leam_Albion (West Bromwich Albion fan)

"Don't talk such nonsense boys.. How naive are you both? You have no idea what goes on behind closed doors. Greening stated only recently that he wants to see his playing days out at WBA, Peace has commented that the story's also not true. Another Dingle stirring and a scouser who knows sod all... You have your own sites.. I suggest you pay more attention to them.

By the way jaybee82, our chairman is called Peace, not Pearce, thicko.."

Redder84 (Liverpool fan)

"jaybee82 - you are totally right! Reading did the right thing letting Doyle join Wolves!

Players are always accused of a lack of loyalty (eg. Michael Owen going to Man Utd despite Liverpool not even offering him a deal). It's unfair for WBA to force Greening to stay in the Championship when he probably only has two years left for making a contribution to the Premier league!"
