The 18-year-old is regarded as a bright prospect for the future after making his name with the Spanish Third Division side.

Mendy is a versatile defender who primarily plays at right-back but also has the ability to line up on the opposite flank.

"I am a Liverpool fan through and through. Red, white and Anfield till I die. But to be honest what is the point in signing this kid. He may be a hot prospect but I feel that we have a quality reserve squad and excellent youth team. Promote from within, do not waste money on either transfer fees or wages on pointless signing that are not needed. We need an influx of scouse through the back bone of the team - Gerard, JC promoted from within, I rest my case."

"come on .. this is not Benitez signing.. its rather the youth team signing.. so why mark it as Benitez signing? Benitez signing will be for the first team. other then thats its the scout's work in bringing young talent to the club. It just the media trying to establish Benitez's 100th signing in his reign headlines.. Arsenal sign Aaron Ramsey for their reserve, ManU signed some 16 years old italian kid for their youth team..so what? "
