Kuyt: Squad vital for Reds success

Dirk Kuyt has warned Liverpool will need to call on their entire squad in search of success in the crunch games for the rest of the season.

Kuyt: Skippered Liverpool against Gunners

Kuyt captained a much-changed Liverpool side at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday when they lost 2-1 to Arsenal in the Carling Cup.

Liverpool were without Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, Fernando Torres and Jose Reina in north London - but all are expected to return on Saturday for a Premier League match at Fulham before next week's must-win Champions League trip to Lyon.

Matches at Birmingham and then against Manchester City and Everton follow in the first half of next month - and Kuyt knows the Reds need everyone in or close to top form.

"We are ready for a big week, and a big few weeks," said the Dutchman.

"We did not win against Arsenal - but that will not stop us being ready for the weekend game at Fulham and the games coming up, particularly in Europe.

"We believe if we win the next couple of games and go on a good run, you never know what will happen to our season.

"We said on Sunday that we beat Manchester United not with just 11 players, but with the whole squad."

The same togetherness prevailed against the Gunners - albeit in defeat.

"The lads who did not play in the last couple of weeks picked up that attitude and played well against Arsenal, even though we lost," Kuyt reported.

"That attitude to the game is good to see. It is very important - because we need the whole squad this season. There are a lot of games."

Kuyt will almost certainly hand the captain's armband back to either Gerrard - under intense treatment for his groin problem - or Jamie Carragher for the trip to Craven Cottage.

But he certainly enjoyed the honour.

"I am very proud to be the captain of a Liverpool team, but unfortunately we didn't win. That was disappointing," he said.

"Everyone knows Stevie and 'Carra' are the captains of the team. But with them not there, it was nice to have my chance."

"benjamin 3 wins in a row over your mob we don't need depth or a good squad to do that."

"red morty: i havnt said we are going to win the league this year mate. if im really honest i;ll be happy with a 2nd or 3rd finish(most manu fans wont)as im not pretty excited by our performance so far(ronaldo and tevez are badly missed period!) but few weeks ago most of you were slagging your team and manager saying all kind of stuff sack rafa the team no good etc, then boom! you beat united and all of a sudden you are great.(SURE ill be happy when we beat the enemy but i wont forget that we have problems and lost 4 in a row) anyways liverpool do have a decent side so have we and chelsea and the exciting arsenal who deserve something this year for the way they play. the difference this year that anyone can win the league without been great or deserved. if its not manu i would like arsenal to win.cheers!"

"MANU_17 (Manchester United fan) - It's just a question of showing some realism here. Too many narrowminded opinions in here and your fans seem to drown in your own previous glory, like ours also tend to do after a few good games against you. I'm not saying here we have the best squad in the country, but to say we have no quality is completely nonsense and you know it! To say that we don't have enough quality to win the league this year is perhaps true and up for debate, but please people, make some sense in here!! You say "what have you actually won so far nothing!" Thats true this season but no trophies have been given out yeat so what are you on about. And just for the record; last season is also history as long as all the earlier seasons so for how long are you gonna brag about your last title? What you won last year won't give you any favours this year or will it..?"
