Sturridge had been expected to secure a move to Stamford Bridge after turning down a new deal at City.

With the pacy forward being under the age of 24, City are entitled to compensation and the fee is likely to be decided by a tribunal.

The Premier League rivals have failed to agree on a settlement, but reports suggest Chelsea could end up paying £5million for the 19-year-old.

He had also been linked with Aston Villa and West Ham, but will add to the attacking options at Carlo Ancelotti's disposal this season.

Sturridge, who is the nephew of former Derby forward Dean Sturridge, made his debut for City in February 2007 against Reading.

During his City career, he scored six goals in 32 games in all competitions, with the majority of his appearances coming from the bench.

"sturridge is going for the money, nothing else stephen ireland got off his backside and deservely was our player of the year. While sturridge is quite happy sitting on the terraces at stanford bridge watching chelski play next season because he is a lazy money-grabbing egotisical big-head who thinks he does not have to earn his wages as my uncle was a footballer on dream team"

mark_ozzy (Manchester City fan)

"He is a greedy money grabber. There's a reason he's only ever played for the England U-20's and not the U-21's, he's just not that good! Chelsea only want him as they are worried about the fifa regulations for home grown players and although he came through the ranks at City he ticks the boxes as an English home grown player!"

swiss gnome (Aston Villa fan)

"Should have come to Villa........"

ratandfordy (Manchester City fan)

"Great talent bu no chance of shining at Chelski! how many games for the first team is he seriousley going to participate in! easy NONE!"

mabenk2 (Chelsea fan)

"i don't know, but i think as a chelsea fan every player has to fight for his place"

Dr Ian (Manchester City fan)

"Aplayer with tremendous potential. Meanwhile we pay the likes of Bellamy a fortune - not a bad player but one with an appalling injury record and now getting on a bit. One fears for our younger players with Hughes and our Chairman in control. Both seem to be wedded to the idea of having a team of galacticos. Shame about Studge - what's the bet Weiss goes the same way and it wouldn't surprise me if Hughes let Nedum go too."

gillington (Manchester City fan)

"Dis-appointed to see him go,obviously not all the players that are arriving at City have pound signs in their eyes."
