John Terry will reportedly hold talks with new Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti this week as Manchester City line up a £35million bid for him.
City boss Mark Hughes has been a busy man in the summer transfer market so far, adding midfielder Gareth Barry, striker Roque Santa Cruz and goalkeeper Stuart Taylor to his playing pool, with Argentina forward Carlos Tevez also on the verge of a move to Eastlands.
Now the Welshman has targeted bolstering his defensive options, and has made England captain Terry his number-one priority to spearhead the club's push for a top-four spot next season.
City are believed to have had a £30million bid for the 29-year-old rejected, with the Londoners wanting a staggering £45million for the combative centre-back, who has three years to run on his existing contract at Stamford Bridge.
And the News of the World claims City's ambitious owners are ready to up their offer to £35million, with a pay packet of £280,000 a week for Terry.
The paper claims Chelsea will only sell the England star if he slaps in a transfer request, therefore admitting to Blues fans that he wants to leave.
Ancelotti is planning an overhaul of the club's ageing squad this summer, so may find City's offer too much to resist.

"Why would Terry leave Chelsea?? He has unfinished business (CL), is the captain, is adored at the club by fans and the players (as far as I know), is 29 so is still young enough for a CB at Chelsea, but is too old to be starting a project at City. He makes a very very good living at CFC. If this does go through, and I really don't believe it will, how will he explain the transfer??? "I wanted a new challenge and the project at City interested me"... That would be a lie, and everybody knows this! He might as well admit he's a money grabber! Besides, is Terry worth 35m?? There are plenty of younger and perhaps better options available if you want to start a long term project... this is not the way City, when will you learn?"

"The reported wages for Terry are quite obscene - and who would be captain? Terry or Barry? "

"city and real are making man u look like a very sensible club. after all the years of stick united fans have had to put up with - just because they COULD spend more than most clubs. united have always (in the 15 years i have supported them anyway) spent within their means. what city and real are doing is not financially viable. more importantly it is not good for squad moral if one first team player gets many times as much as another established first teamer."

"Really cant see john terry leaving chelsea to join manchester city - this guy is chelsea through and through and is already on a decent wage at chelsea so why leave ?!! Man city are not and will never be a big club - money does not make you a big club"

"at 29 terry doesn't have long left to achieve his ambitions...city need a few years to become title contenders...terry has already won the title...how many years till man city realistically win the champions league? terry will be retired by then...he'll stick with chelsea till he wins the champions league, then might take a big money offer from the likes of man city...and i don't blame him. football is just a game and at 34 he's gonna be retired with no guaranteed income so he has to make as much money as he can now to provide for his family in the manner they are now accustomed to for the rest of their lives."
